In blogger speak, the COF 2011 COF 2012 blog is what is called an “aggregate blog,” where content from a variety of sources, including but not limited to six North American Anglophone bloggers who will be visiting the Colli Orientali del Friuli, attending tastings, visiting wineries and meeting winemakers, and experiencing the appellation’s enogastronomic landscape as guests of the Colli Orientali del Friuli producers association.

This year’s trip begins on April 2, 2012.

The trip will take place beginning Sunday, February 6 through Friday, February 11, 2011. But the official launch is Friday, January 7, and the blog will remain active throughout the 2011 calendar year.

The project is the brainchild of blogger and wine professional Wayne Young, an American who began working in the Italian wine world in New York City in the 1990s and ultimately moved to Friuli where he works as one of the top managers for the Bastianich winery.

The bloggers asked to participate in the trip where selected in accordance with the popularity of their blogs (within the wine blogging community and beyond), their shared interests in Italian wine, and their professional experience.

In part, the sponsor’s aim is to raise awareness of COF in the English-speaking world and to promote the products of the appellation beyond its borders. On the other hand, the organizers hope that the dialogue between COF producers and North American wine professionals will help them to better understand how their wines are perceived in the U.S. and how they “make their way to the market.” It is the hope of both the organizers and the blogging team that this social media project (a first for the appellation) will convey the ethos and spirit of the Colli Orientali del Friuli, its wines, and the people that grow and make them.
